Al Ahly Tripoli is changing scale. The Libyan club has significantly strengthened its squad ahead of its participation in the 2026-2027 CAF Cup, with a recruitment campaign that goes well beyond national borders.
Mayele, the headline signing of an ambitious recruitment drive
The star signing is Fiston Mayele. The Congolese striker arrives from Pyramids, with whom he won the CAF Champions League in 2025. He is joined notably by South African international Fagrie Lakay, who arrived from Ceramica Cleopatra, as well as Mostafa Shakshak, whose club exercised the purchase option with ENPPI.
Recruitment also extends to the rest of the continent. Several players have joined the project:
- Jean Claude, who played for Al Hilal in Sudan
- Mohamed Khalil
- Hussein Dahiri, who arrived from USM Alger
- Omar Al-Harik, who played for East Fife in Scotland
The club has also signed Ishaq Yakubu, from National Bank of Egypt.
This new team will be led by Hossam El Badry, an experienced Egyptian coach. Al Ahly Tripoli are the reigning Libyan champions, having also won the Libyan Cup last season.
A first test in September
The recruitment drive will quickly be put to the test. Al Ahly Tripoli will begin their CAF Cup campaign against KMKM of Zanzibar in the first preliminary round. The first legs are scheduled from 4 to 6 September, with the return legs from 11 to 13 September.
Mayele and his new teammates now have their first opportunity to show what this new Al Ahly Tripoli side is made of.
