Carlo Ancelotti was back at Valdebebas on Thursday. The former Real Madrid coach, now Brazil's national team manager, visited his old club and notably met up again with José Mourinho, back on the Madrid bench. A meeting that came with a genuine message of confidence towards the Portuguese coach.
'I've had a good relationship with Mourinho for a long time. We exchange ideas and messages. I'm happy he's here, at this great club that he knows very well. He is going to do a very good job,' said Ancelotti.
Particularly meaningful support from the man who succeeded Mourinho on the Real Madrid bench back in 2013. Ancelotti knows the club's demands perfectly well and believes his former counterpart has the qualities needed to succeed in this new spell in Madrid.
A start to the season that is already reassuring
Ancelotti also spoke positively about Real Madrid's early performances. After a start to the season marked by some difficulties, the team has gradually shown a more convincing face, notably in its win against Real Sociedad.
The Italian coach believes the new signings can still bring more to the team and remains optimistic for what lies ahead:
'I think the team is well prepared. It's going to be a great season for Real Madrid.'
As Mourinho prepares to face his first major fixtures of the season, the Portuguese coach thus receives the support of a man who, better than most, knows the pressure that comes with the Madrid bench. Ancelotti seems convinced that his return to Real can lead to success.
