Arsenal are on the verge of pulling off one of the biggest moves of the summer transfer window. According to several British media outlets, the Gunners have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Newcastle United for the transfer of Bruno Guimarães. The Brazilian midfielder could move to London in a deal estimated at 90 million euros, which would make it one of the most significant signings of the summer.
A targeted reinforcement to aim higher
After winning the Premier League, Arsenal have no intention of stopping there. Mikel Arteta is looking to further strengthen his squad in order to retain the title and finally take a step forward in the Champions League. The Spanish manager had been seeking a midfielder capable of combining physical power, technical quality and leadership — a profile that Bruno Guimarães appears to embody perfectly.
Since joining Newcastle in 2022, the Brazilian international has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the English top flight. Excellent in ball recovery, capable of breaking lines through passing or carrying the ball, he would bring a new dimension to the heart of the London side's game.
A midfield among the most competitive in Europe
With Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard, MartÃn Zubimendi, Mikel Merino and Ethan Nwaneri, Arsenal would boast one of the most complete midfields on the continent. Arteta would thus be able to alternate between several systems while maintaining a high level of performance across all competitions.
Newcastle facing a difficult choice
On Newcastle's side, the departure of Bruno Guimarães would represent a considerable sporting loss. It would nonetheless allow the club to receive a significant transfer fee to fund the continuation of their project.
Arsenal's transfer window could furthermore be far from over. The London club's executives are reportedly continuing to work on several leads, both in attack and defence, in order to provide Mikel Arteta with a squad capable of competing with the best European teams throughout the season.
