Samuel Eto'o has picked his side in the race for the 2026 Ballon d'Or. The Fécafoot president posted a photo of Lamine Yamal on Instagram, accompanied by a particularly glowing message: 'Ballon d'Or of our hearts'. He also wished the Barcelona player good luck in the race for the trophy.
Thirty contenders, one winner
The former FC Barcelona striker's support comes as the 30 nominees for the 2026 Ballon d'Or have now been announced. Yamal is among the contenders, alongside notably:
- Kylian Mbappé
- Harry Kane
- Ousmane Dembélé
- Michael Olise
- Kvara
The winner will be announced on 26 October in London.
Mbappé thanks African voters
This stance comes just days after Mbappé's interview with RFI. The Frenchman directly thanked African voters for their support and explained that he hoped he could dedicate the Ballon d'Or to them.
Kane, an extraordinary season
Another contender, Harry Kane, is relying on an exceptional 2025-2026 season: 73 goals in 65 matches, including 61 with Bayern Munich.
