The return of Bamba Dieng to Serie A will ultimately not take place. The Senegalese forward's transfer to Lazio officially fell through after inconclusive medical examinations, particularly concerning his knee.
The Senegalese international had arrived in Rome to finalize his transfer after reaching an agreement with the Roman club. But the medical tests ultimately caused the deal to collapse.
An encouraging season with Lorient
It is a hard blow for Dieng, who had nonetheless just come off an encouraging season with Lorient. The 26-year-old forward scored 10 goals in the league during the 2025-2026 season, gradually regaining his effectiveness and an important place in the attacking sector.
Lazio was meant to represent a new stage in his career. After several more inconsistent seasons since leaving Marseille, a return to Serie A could have allowed him to durably relaunch his trajectory and regain significant exposure.
A blow for Senegal as well
This missed opportunity is also a blow for Senegal. Patrick Vieira has just taken charge of the Lions and must precisely build a new cycle. A performing Bamba Dieng in a league of Serie A's caliber would have constituted an additional solution for the new coach.
But Dieng must now quickly move on.
Red Star on the lookout
Red Star Belgrade is reportedly now interested in the Senegalese forward and is said to have made an offer to sign him. A new lead that could allow him to bounce back quickly after the failure of his transfer to Rome.
Lazio was supposed to be his new start. It ultimately became a new setback.
It is now up to Bamba Dieng to find the next door that will allow him to definitively relaunch his career.
