Girondins de Bordeaux: Sparta Capital takes over the club, Dominique Delport appointed president

FootReporter · 1 août 2026

The Girondins de Bordeaux are opening a new chapter in their history. After several months of uncertainty, Gérard Lopez has relinquished control of the club to British investment fund Sparta Capital, which becomes the new reference shareholder. This deal allows the club to avoid liquidation, even though its sporting future remains subject to final decisions by the relevant authorities.

Dominique Delport at the helm

In the wake of the takeover, Dominique Delport announced he is taking up the position of president of the Girondins. A former executive of the M6 Group, who also spent time at Vivendi and Vice Media, this 58-year-old businessman will be tasked with leading the reconstruction of a club deeply weakened by several years of sporting and financial difficulties.

Alongside him, British entrepreneur James Bord, founder of Sparta Capital, will steer the revival project. The new leadership has a clear ambition: to restore economic stability to the club, strengthen its governance, and build a project capable of gradually bringing the Marine et Blanc back to professional football.

A deal not yet fully sealed

Despite this major change, the club's future is not yet entirely settled. The Girondins' place in the National league still depends on the final administrative and sporting validations. If these are obtained, Bordeaux will be able to definitively turn the page on the Gérard Lopez era and begin a new chapter under the leadership of Sparta Capital and Dominique Delport.
