'It's not possible', Létang's big warning to the players despite Lille's win

FootReporter · 4 septembre 2026

Lille won 1-0 away at Toulouse on Thursday, in matchday 3 of Ligue 1, in a match where the team was largely dominated. The winning goal was scored by Ayase Ueda, who had come on less than twenty minutes earlier and proved decisive in the 73rd minute.

Without a big performance from goalkeeper Berke Özer, Lille would probably not have brought back the three points from Toulouse. Davide Ancelotti reacted straight after half-time by making two changes, bringing on Dilane Bakwa and Jean-Christophe Perraud in place of Osame Sahraoui and Calvin Verdonk, in an attempt to shake up his team.

Létang's warning

Despite the win, Olivier Létang did not hide his concern when speaking to Ligue 1+. 'It's too early to alert everyone but I say 'watch out'', said the Lille president, before adding: 'It's miraculous to come back with the three points, we have to be clear-eyed about it.'

The club official focused on the content of the performance more than the result: 'I saw a lot of things that worried me in the attitudes and the behaviour.' His conclusion left little room for doubt: 'It's not possible', he stated firmly, referring to a level of commitment incompatible with top-level sport.

Davide Ancelotti gave an assessment close to that of his president. 'As a team, we didn't play the match we wanted to, we didn't give the image we want to give,' he admitted in his press conference, while also acknowledging his own share of responsibility in preparing for the match.

With this win, Lille now have 7 points from 3 matches and temporarily sit top of Ligue 1. A position in the table which, according to Létang, should not stop the squad from quickly correcting its performances.
