He was not there — and yet, more than 2,000 people gathered on Saturday outside the cathedral of Funchal, in Madeira, convinced they were about to witness the wedding of Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez.
A rumour that took on unexpected proportions
The crowd had turned up following the spread of rumours announcing the nuptials of CR7. The reality was quite different: the ceremony held that day was that of Fábio Ramos and Fátima Nicole Cunha Teixeira, a Portuguese couple based in France. Some onlookers even went as far as mistaking the bride for Georgina Rodríguez.
The confusion quickly took on a spectacular scale. Supporters wearing Ronaldo jerseys mingled with the hundreds of curious onlookers crowded around the cathedral, turning an ordinary wedding into an extraordinary event. Ronaldo, for his part, reacted with humour on social media.
No confirmed wedding to date
Contrary to certain posts currently circulating, no wedding between Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez has been confirmed. The couple, engaged since August 2025, remain officially engaged.
In the end, it was the wedding of two unknown individuals that gave Madeira one of the most improbable scenes of this summer.
