Real Madrid had to wait until the final seconds to get past Elche (3-2), this Tuesday evening at the Martínez Valero. Starting the match, Yan Diomandé stood out with an assist for Kylian Mbappé, who once again found the net.
Real Madrid thought they had done the hardest part. After a perfectly controlled first half, José Mourinho's side led 2-0 thanks to a free kick from Arda Güler deflected into his own net by Matías Dituro, followed by a goal from Mbappé.
In the 33rd minute, Yan Diomandé, named in the starting lineup, accelerated behind the defence before setting up Mbappé inside the box. The Frenchman did not falter and doubled the lead. Another attacking contribution from the Ivorian, who is confirming his place in the Madrid starting eleven.
Mbappé, a scare then a decisive impact
Mbappé could even have scored a second goal, but a strike was ruled out for offside. The Frenchman nonetheless had an impact throughout the match.
As Real Madrid seemed to be losing control after goals from Abiel Osorio in the 71st minute and then Fer Niño in the 83rd, Mbappé once again appeared at the decisive moment.
In the 90th+1 minute, he broke away and squared the ball inside the box for Carlos Espí, who arrived to score the winning goal. 3-2.
Real get away with it, Elche left with regrets
After leading 2-0, Madrid allowed Elche back into a match they had largely under control. Madrid's second-half lapse turned an expected win into a real thriller.
But Real ultimately walk away with the three points.
Mbappé finishes with a goal and an assist. Diomandé with an assist and a starting appearance full of promise. And Madrid continue their march forward, this time at the end of a completely wild story.
