The Douglas Luiz situation has taken a new turn at Juventus. Long considered a player likely to leave Turin after a difficult initial spell, the Brazilian midfielder is now moving closer to staying in the bianconero squad.

The main reason has a name: Luciano Spalletti. Juventus's new head coach has made clear his belief in Douglas Luiz following his performances during pre-season, and recently indicated that the Brazilian had probably earned his place in the squad for the 2026-2027 season.
This is a notable reversal of fortunes. Having arrived from Aston Villa in 2024 for a reported fee of around €51.5 million, Douglas Luiz had never truly managed to establish himself in Turin. After a difficult first season, he was loaned out to Nottingham Forest before returning to Juventus this summer.

Spalletti appears willing to give him a fresh opportunity. Featuring regularly during pre-season, the Brazilian notably scored against Nice and put in a far more convincing display. He himself acknowledged having rediscovered his confidence, and now believes it is possible to continue his adventure in Turin.
The prospect of a departure is therefore no longer the priority. Everton had shown interest in the player, but Douglas Luiz has made his desire to stay at Juventus abundantly clear.
A gamble to be converted into performances
For the Brazilian, the challenge is now straightforward: turn Spalletti's confidence into consistent performances. For Juventus, it is also an opportunity to avoid giving up too quickly on a player bought at a high price, who could yet rediscover the level he showed in the Premier League.
