Édouard Mendy is officially the best goalkeeper in the Saudi Pro League for the 2025-2026 season. The Senegalese goalkeeper of Al Ahli received the Golden Glove this Saturday, an award given to the goalkeeper who recorded the most clean sheets over the campaign. It is a new individual distinction crowning a particularly solid season for the African champion.
The trophy was presented to him before the match between Al Ahli and Abha, as part of matchday two of the 2026-2027 season. Mendy thus officially received an award he had already earned on the pitch several months earlier.
14 clean sheets and a duel won against Bounou
The competition was especially fierce. Mendy finished the season with 14 clean sheets, exactly the same tally as Yassine Bounou, his Moroccan rival from Al Hilal.
Level on the main criterion, the two goalkeepers were separated by their defensive statistics. And on that front, the Senegalese came out on top.

An award that confirms Mendy's consistency
This distinction did not come out of nowhere. Mendy had already been individually rewarded during the season, having won the Saudi Pro League Goalkeeper of the Month title for September.
With Al Ahli, the Senegalese goalkeeper has established himself as one of the main pillars of the Jeddah club's defensive solidity.
His triumph also takes on particular significance given the level of competition in the Saudi league. Facing top-tier international goalkeepers, including Bounou, Mendy maintained enough consistency to finish at the top of the standings.
A new trophy for the Senegalese
At 34, Édouard Mendy continues to pile up honours. Having reached the very top level in Europe and won the Champions League with Chelsea, the Senegalese goalkeeper continues his journey in the Middle East with a new individual recognition.
And his duel with Bounou gives even more weight to this trophy: two African goalkeepers, 14 clean sheets each, 46 saves each, but a statistical edge for the Senegalese.
The 2025-2026 Golden Glove ultimately belongs to Senegal. Édouard Mendy shut the door, and the Saudi Pro League rewarded him for it.
