Brentford and West Ham are said to be close to an agreement for El Hadji Malick Diouf. Discussions between the two clubs are progressing and the final details of the deal still need to be settled. The transfer could reach a significant amount, as Brentford look to bring in the Senegalese left-back.
For Diouf, this move would carry a particular significance. Having joined West Ham in the summer of 2025 from Slavia Prague, after beginning his European journey at Tromsø, the Senegalese player had discovered the Premier League with the Hammers.
But West Ham's footballing standing has since changed. Relegated at the end of last season, the London club is now playing in the Championship, with the aim of quickly returning to the English top flight.
A transfer that makes complete sense
This is where the possible move to Brentford makes complete sense. At just 21 years old, Diouf has no interest in interrupting his learning process at the highest level. A move to Brentford would allow him to stay in the Premier League, to keep facing the best English teams every week and to continue his development in a league he now knows well.
An issue that also matters for Senegal
Diouf has established himself within the Lions' squad, and his Premier League experience is an asset in the competition for full-back spots. Joining Brentford would obviously not guarantee a place in the national team, but staying at the highest level in England would give him more continuity and exposure.
The choice is therefore far from being purely financial or contractual. For West Ham, it is about recovering a significant fee after just one season with the player. For Diouf, a move to Brentford could above all represent the chance not to take a step back in his sporting trajectory.
The agreement has not yet been officially concluded. But if the latest discussions come to fruition, Diouf could soon find himself back in the Premier League with Brentford.
For the young Senegalese international, the stakes are clear: keep growing at the highest level rather than dropping down a division.
