Everton got their Premier League season off to a perfect start with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry scored the Toffees' two goals.
This victory ends a five-year wait: Everton had not won their opening Premier League match since 2021.
Dewsbury-Hall gets Everton going
After a first half in which Palace created several chances, Everton took the lead in the 42nd minute. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall found the top corner with a left-footed strike following good work from Harrison Armstrong.
Palace had, however, had the clearest chances before that opener, notably through Eddie Nketiah and Jean-Philippe Mateta, who started the match and hit the post. Jordan Pickford also stood out in goal.
Barry strikes again
Everton doubled their lead in the 53rd minute. Iliman Ndiaye delivered an excellent cross for Thierno Barry, who scored with a header.
For the French-Guinean forward, it is a particularly promising start to the season, with a goal on the very first matchday.
Everton then held onto their lead until the final whistle.
An important win for David Moyes, but also a reminder: the Toffees were clinical, while Crystal Palace will rue their missed chances.
