Gabriel Jesus joins Barça and opens a new chapter

FootReporter · 2 septembre 2026

Gabriel Jesus is officially a FC Barcelona player. The Brazilian forward leaves Arsenal to join the Spanish champions in a transfer estimated at around 11 million euros.

At 29 years old, the Brazilian has signed until 2029. He becomes Barça's new number 9, as the club banks on his experience and offensive versatility.

A fresh start after Manchester City and Arsenal

This arrival represents a fresh start for a player whose European career began at Manchester City. Between 2016 and 2022, Jesus played 236 matches with the Citizens, scoring 95 goals and providing 45 assists.

His spell at Arsenal then allowed him to confirm his importance, even though his playing time gradually decreased. Last season, he was only named in the starting lineup three times in the Premier League, scoring three goals in fourteen appearances.

A market opportunity for Barça

Barcelona sees this deal as a market opportunity: bringing in an experienced forward at a relatively modest price and offering him a new setting.

Gabriel Jesus himself accepted a significant financial effort to join Catalonia. His goal is now clear: to regain a central role and take part in the pursuit of new trophies with Barça.

A bet on experience

For Barcelona, the gamble is also an interesting one. Gabriel Jesus knows the pressure of the very top level, the Champions League and the demands of a big club. It remains to be seen whether he can recapture in Catalonia the form that once made him one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe.
