The turnaround is spectacular. Iliman Ndiaye is now very close to Manchester City. The Manchester club has reached an agreement in principle with Everton for the transfer of the Senegalese forward, after Tottenham had long been seen as the frontrunners.
Manchester City are said to have completed the deal on a basis of 65 million pounds sterling, or around 76 million euros. The deal accelerated in the last few hours, after Manchester's attempt to sign Cody Gakpo fell through.
City turn the situation around
Everything seemed to be pointing towards Iliman Ndiaye joining Tottenham. Spurs had reached an agreement with Everton in the region of 60 million pounds, and the Senegalese had given his approval to the London project. But discussions over Richarlison's return to Everton delayed the completion of the deal.
Manchester City took advantage of this to renew their pursuit. After fresh contacts with Everton and the player's entourage, the English champions finally gained the upper hand.
Ndiaye's own preference is also said to have played a part in this turnaround. The Senegalese is now said to favour a move to the Etihad, where he could play Champions League football and work under Pep Guardiola.
Medical before signing
The agreement between the clubs has now been reached, but the transfer has not yet been officially completed. Iliman Ndiaye is due to undergo his medical on Tuesday morning, before signing his contract with Manchester City.
At 26, the Senegalese international is set to take another major step forward in his career. Having joined Everton after his spell at Olympique de Marseille, Ndiaye could now join one of Europe's biggest clubs.
Barring a last-minute reversal, Iliman Ndiaye will therefore become Manchester City's new player.
