Jack Grealish set to rejoin Everton on loan

Jack Grealish is set to rejoin Everton. Manchester City and the Merseyside club have reached an agreement for a new season-long loan, following a convincing first spell for the English midfielder at the Toffees. Grealish still has to undergo his medical before the deal is finalised, with the English transfer window closing this Tuesday at 11pm BST.

This return is nothing new for the England international. Loaned to Everton last season, Grealish played 22 matches in all competitions, scoring twice and providing six assists. His season was, however, cut short in January by a foot injury.

Grealish had been linked with several clubs, notably Aston Villa, where he came through the academy. But his preference was for Everton, who also wanted to continue the collaboration with him. The Liverpool club had kept in touch with the player in recent weeks.

Having arrived at Manchester City in 2021 for £100 million, Grealish has barely had any playing time since the start of this season. He took part in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal before coming on as a substitute against Bournemouth. His loan move should allow him to regain more regular playing time.

A two-way transfer window

Grealish's return comes as part of a particularly busy transfer window between Everton and Manchester City. Iliman Ndiaye is set to make the reverse move: City have reached an agreement worth up to £65 million with Everton for the Senegal international, subject to a medical.

Everton have also made progress on Folarin Balogun. An agreement with Monaco is reported to be around £40 million, with personal terms also having progressed.

The Richarlison case, meanwhile, has become considerably more complicated. The Brazilian's return to Everton, at one point considered as part of the negotiations around Ndiaye, remains stalled.

Finally, Nathan Patterson is also reported to be on his way out. The Scottish full-back is linked with a move to Torino, with Everton retaining a percentage on any future resale.

Everton currently sit 7th in the Premier League with four points after two matchdays, on the eve of a particularly eventful transfer deadline day.
