The transfer window has closed in Europe's major leagues, but some major deals may already be taking shape for future windows. This is notably the case for Julian Alvarez, who is still being closely watched by FC Barcelona.
The Argentine forward was one of the Catalan club's top priorities, but the deal could not be completed this summer.
Atletico held firm
Atletico Madrid resisted the various approaches and kept hold of its striker. Even significant offers, exceeding 100 million euros, were not enough to convince the Madrid club to let its forward leave.
Alvarez therefore remains in Madrid to continue his adventure with Atletico.
A profile that still appeals to Barça
But in Barcelona, his profile continues to appeal. The Argentine has a particularly sought-after versatility: capable of playing as a out-and-out striker, behind the forward or on a wing, he fits perfectly the type of player Barça wants to integrate into its project.
The problem, of course, remains financial. A deal of this magnitude would require the Catalan club to have significant financial room and to reach an agreement with Atletico.
The case could therefore come back to the table during an upcoming transfer window.
Alvarez focused on Atletico
For Alvarez, this situation does not change his immediate goal: continuing his season with Atletico and confirming his status among the most sought-after forwards in European football.
The transfer window is closed, but in Barcelona, the Julian Alvarez case may already be in the works.
