Lazio: after the Ivanovic failure, Joselu emerges as new attacking target

FootReporter · 10 août 2026

Lazio must rethink its plans. Long targeted to reinforce the attacking department, Milan Ivanovic will ultimately sign with RC Lens, forcing the Roman club to start from scratch in its search for a centre-forward. A new name has quickly emerged: Joselu.

An experienced profile, immediately available

The Spanish striker is currently a free agent following his experience at Al-Gharafa. His profile stands in sharp contrast to Ivanovic's: Joselu brings solid experience, a game rooted in the penalty area, and a physical presence capable of causing problems for opposing defences.

For Gennaro Gattuso, who is still waiting for an attacking reinforcement, the appeal is clear: the Spaniard would represent an immediately operational solution, with no adaptation period required.

Financial constraints that complicate the move

The deal nonetheless remains to be built. Lazio has been working throughout the transfer window with limited financial resources, which is hampering its negotiations. Santiago Gimenez, another of Gattuso's attacking priorities, also remains difficult to attract in this context.

The Joselu lead is therefore gaining momentum, driven by urgency: after this latest setback, the Roman club needs to find its number 9 before the official start of the season.
