The Lions' Den: Nobel Mendy lights the fuse, Iliman Ndiaye sets up Everton

Chroniqueur & Reporter · 23 août 2026

Every weekend, The Lions' Den brings together the performances of Senegalese players on European pitches: goals, assists, saves, starts and notable moments.

For this first edition of the season, several Lions have already made headlines.

Nobel Mendy strikes on his debut

On his first Premier League appearance, Nobel Mendy scored for Hull City against Manchester United.

The Senegalese defender scored the match's second goal in the 38th minute, heading home a Regan Slater free kick. Hull went on to win 2-0 at the MKM Stadium.

Mendy, who joined Hull this summer, was then substituted in the 64th minute. The club had not yet released details on the reason for his withdrawal at the time of publication.

A first Premier League match, a goal and a prestigious win: the start of the season could hardly have been more memorable.

Iliman Ndiaye provides an assist

Everton also began their season with a win, 2-0 against Crystal Palace.

Iliman Ndiaye was directly involved in the second goal. The Senegalese international delivered the cross that Thierno Barry headed in during the second half.

An interesting performance from Ndiaye, who starts the season with an assist.

Dame Gueye scores as Le Mans return

Le Mans marked their return to Ligue 1 with a spectacular 2-2 draw against Brest.

Dame Gueye scored the Le Mans club's first goal in the top flight, just before the break. Brest eventually equalised late in the match through Kamory Doumbia.

Other Lions to watch

Lamine Camara also stood out on Thursday with Monaco in the first leg of the Europa Conference League play-off.

The Den will continue to follow the Senegalese players involved in the various European leagues throughout the weekend.
