Paris Saint-Germain have pulled off one of the biggest moves of this summer transfer window. After several weeks of negotiations with AS Monaco, the capital club officially confirmed the signing of Maghnes Akliouche on Thursday. At just 24 years old, the French international joins the European champions with the ambition of reaching a new level in his career.
Regarded as one of the most creative players in Ligue 1 over the past two seasons, Akliouche arrives at a squad that is already extremely rich in talent, but with a profile that Luis Enrique had been searching for over several months: a creator capable of beating opponents in tight spaces, breaking lines through dribbling and bringing unpredictability in the final thirty metres.
A transfer quickly identified as a priority
Since the start of the summer, PSG had been looking to strengthen their attacking department without disrupting the balance built during the previous season. Several leads had been explored, but the one leading to Maghnes Akliouche quickly emerged as the most credible.
The player comes off the back of two highly impressive seasons with Monaco, where he established himself as one of the best dribblers in the division. Competition of the very highest level
His arrival obviously does not guarantee him an undisputed starting spot. PSG already boast an extremely competitive attacking department, and Luis Enrique will need to manage significant rotation among his various talents.
But it is precisely this competition that could allow Akliouche to reach a new level. At Monaco, he was already a key player; in Paris, he will need to prove that he can reproduce the same standard when it matters most in major European fixtures.
An investment for the present… and for the future
Beyond his immediate contribution, the signing of Akliouche is part of a broader strategy at PSG: building a young, French squad capable of establishing itself durably among the best clubs in Europe. The club is thus continuing its policy of recruiting high-potential players, rather than multiplying signings of stars past their peak.
For Maghnes Akliouche, the challenge is immense. Moving from Monaco to PSG means stepping up a dimension, with constant media pressure and considerable expectations. But if he manages to express in Paris the creativity, technical quality and personality he displayed on the Rock, PSG may well have recruited one of the future leaders of French football.
