Real Madrid suffered their first defeat of the season in Liga, beaten 1-0 by Betis. This setback ends a run of three wins at the start of the championship.
The match tipped into controversy late on. A goal from Carlos Espí was first disallowed for offside, before the Madrid side were awarded a penalty in stoppage time. Kylian Mbappé then saw his attempt saved by Betis goalkeeper Álvaro Valles.
Real Madrid TV goes on the attack
It was the club's official channel that raised the most detailed objection. It considered that Marc Bartra's position could have justified a retake of the penalty, and criticised the video assistance for not asking the referee to review the sequence.
José Mourinho also felt after the match that his team deserved better, in turn criticising certain refereeing decisions.
Despite this stumble, Real Madrid remain second with nine points after four matchdays. This first defeat of the season nonetheless puts the Madrid club under pressure ahead of the rest of the championship.
