Leão unwanted at Milan: Amorim has reportedly made his decision

FootReporter · 15 août 2026

The Rafael Leão file has taken yet another turn at AC Milan. While Ruben Amorim had still recently displayed a fairly open stance regarding the Portuguese forward, the manager has now reportedly made it known to his management that he no longer counts on him in his project.

A strong signal after the Amorim-Cardinale summit

According to the latest information from Corriere dello Sport, this position was reportedly confirmed to Leão's entourage following a meeting between Amorim and owner Gerry Cardinale. The forward would therefore no longer be among the priorities of the new Milan head coach, who is looking to reshape his attacking unit.

This reversal is all the more striking given that Amorim was speaking in very different terms just a few weeks earlier. Upon his arrival at Milan, he presented Leão as a fully-fledged member of his squad, and at the start of August he was still insisting that the forward was

'happy and motivated'
while claiming to make no distinction between him and the rest of the group.

The transfer window reshuffles the cards

In the meantime, the manager's sporting choices and the evolution of the transfer market appear to have shifted the situation. Milan are reportedly working on the trail of Said El Mala, a winger from Cologne, in the event of a Leão departure.

The file remains open, but the signal now being sent is far stronger. The Lombardy club will need to find a solution for a player still tied by a contract running until 2028, whose market value remains significant.
