Lekié FF has written a new chapter in Cameroonian football. The women's club qualified for the final stage of the CAF Women's Champions League after finishing top of the UNIFFAC zone qualifying tournament, held in Yaoundé.
The Cameroonian side sealed their ticket on Friday with a 0-0 draw against Football Academy Msichana, representing DR Congo. The result was enough to satisfy them, as it guaranteed them first place in the qualifying tournament.
A historic qualification
This qualification carries special significance: never before had a Cameroonian women's club reached the final stage of this continental competition. Lekié FF thus enters the history of Cameroonian football.
This achievement comes just weeks after the Indomitable Lionesses were crowned champions at the Women's AFCON, confirming the positive momentum currently running through women's football in Cameroon.
Lekié FF will now discover the big continental stage and will try to worthily represent Cameroon's colours there.
