The conflict surrounding Nelson Morgado
According to several German media outlets, including Bild and Sky Sport, the real reason for the departure lies in an internal conflict surrounding Nelson Morgado, Toppmöller's assistant and close collaborator.
Lens' management reportedly decided to part ways with Morgado, who was seen as too demanding with certain members of the French staff, from whom he expected greater commitment and intensity. Toppmöller is said to have refused this decision, viewing it as management interference in the composition and running of his staff. (Football.fr)
The German coach reportedly then chose to stand by his assistant, a disagreement that became deep enough to cause the breakup between the two parties.
Lens changes course
The club officially confirmed the end of the collaboration, explaining that discussions had focused on 'the functioning and organisation of the staff' and that Toppmöller had not accepted the changes desired by management. His two assistants are also affected. (Reuters)
