The new CAF Champions League campaign is officially underway. The draw for the preliminary rounds of the 2026/27 edition has unveiled the first fixtures, and several clashes already promise fierce battles across the continent.
Among the clubs involved, the big names of African football are present. Pyramids FC will face Gor Mahia, TP Mazembe will be pitted against Medeama, while Club Africain will cross paths with Djoliba. Zamalek, meanwhile, will begin their campaign against AS Port de Djibouti.
🇸🇳 Teungueth FC learns their opponent
Senegal will be represented by Teungueth FC, the reigning national champions, who will face FC Canchungo from Guinea-Bissau from the very first preliminary round.
The club from Rufisque will need to clear this first hurdle if they are to push on towards the group stage. Should they qualify, Teungueth FC will then face the winner of the tie between Colombe Sportive du Dja et Lobo (Cameroon) and Stade Malien.
A manageable fixture on paper for the Senegalese champions, but one that will demand focus and efficiency to avoid any unwanted surprise.
🏆 Champions to enter at a later stage
Mamelodi Sundowns, the title holders, are directly qualified for the second preliminary round. Espérance de Tunis and RS Berkane enjoy the same advantage and bypass the first round altogether.
The South Africans will await the winner of the Wiliete FC – Foresters tie, while Espérance de Tunis will discover their opponent following the match between Al Swehly and KVZ. The competition will once again bring together the leading powers of African football.
📅 Schedule for the early rounds
- First preliminary round — first legs: 4, 5 and 6 September
- First preliminary round — second legs: 11, 12 and 13 September
- Second preliminary round: October
- Group stage: late November
The race to succeed Mamelodi Sundowns is officially open. For the clubs involved from September, the objective is clear: survive the early rounds and keep dreaming of African glory.
