Liverpool have still not won a match this season in the Premier League. For Andoni Iraola's first game at Anfield, the Reds had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest.
The scenario sums up Liverpool's current struggles well: plenty of determination, reactions after every setback, but still too much fragility to fully control a match.
Twice behind, twice level
Forest opened the scoring through Dan Ndoye before Alexander Isak brought Liverpool level on the hour mark. The visitors then regained the lead from the penalty spot through Morgan Gibbs-White.
Liverpool, however, did not give up. Víctor Muñoz eventually equalised in the 82nd minute, allowing the Reds to avoid a home defeat.
Promising signs, but still gaps
Liverpool clearly have attacking quality. Wirtz was enterprising and Isak scored his first goal of the season. But the team remains too vulnerable at the back and still struggles to convert its strong spells.
For Iraola, the work is only just beginning. Two matches, two draws: the record is not alarming, but Liverpool's ambitions demand more, and quickly.
The next goal is now clear: finally secure a first victory and gradually establish the new manager's principles.
Liverpool have character. Now they need control.
