Liverpool have finally secured their first win of the season. Away at Portman Road, the Reds won 2-0 against Ipswich Town thanks to a perfectly controlled start to the match and a revitalised Alexander Isak.
A blistering start
It took the Swedish striker just nine minutes to make the difference. In the 6th minute, Isak converted a pass from Cody Gakpo to open the scoring. Three minutes later, the Swede struck again after another assist from the Dutchman, this time with a composed finish.
Two goals, two assists for Gakpo: Liverpool had already done the essential work.
After this blistering start, the pace gradually dropped. Ipswich tried to react, but Liverpool's defence held firm. The Reds also continued to create a few chances, notably through Dominik Szoboszlai, while Isak even thought he had scored a third before half-time, before being flagged offside.
Barcola's first steps
The other event of the evening was much anticipated: Bradley Barcola made his official debut with Liverpool.
Having arrived a few days earlier, the French international started on the bench. Andoni Iraola brought him on in the 64th minute, replacing Isak. Gakpo then moved into a central role while Barcola came on to bring his pace and ability to take on defenders out wide.
For the Frenchman, this appearance marks the start of a new adventure in the Premier League. He did not yet have enough time to directly influence the scoreline, but his arrival gives Iraola a new attacking weapon.
Iraola finally opens his account
This victory above all allows Andoni Iraola to secure his first win at the helm of Liverpool, after two 2-2 draws against Newcastle and then Nottingham Forest.
The Reds also come away with their first clean sheet of the season. After a hesitant start to the league campaign, Liverpool have therefore recorded a controlled victory and can now look ahead with greater confidence.
Isak got the machine going. Barcola, meanwhile, has just opened a new chapter.
