José Mourinho gave an interview to El Chiringuito in which he heavily praised Kylian Mbappé, going as far as calling him a player 'of a stratospheric level'. L'Équipe also confirms his comments on the level shown by the striker in training.
An extraordinary comeback and season for Mbappé
Mbappé resumed training with Real Madrid on August 10, after three weeks of vacation. He then played in the match against Schalke 04.
In terms of statistics, the French striker finished as top scorer of the 2026 World Cup with 10 goals, ahead of Messi (8), Bellingham (7) and Haaland (7), figures confirmed by FIFA. France, meanwhile, had been eliminated in the semi-final by Spain, by a score of 2-0.
With the national team, Mbappé now boasts 66 goals in 106 caps.
Real Madrid-Schalke 04: a clear-cut win
Real Madrid won 3-0 against Schalke 04, with an early goal from Mbappé, scored as soon as the 6th minute of play.
Mourinho, back thirteen years later
José Mourinho returns to Real Madrid thirteen years after his first spell on the Madrid bench, which ran from 2010 to 2013.
The club will face Espanyol on Saturday, August 22 at 9:30 pm, at the RCDE Stadium.
A point to be handled with caution
A claim stating that Mbappé 'could have arrived on August 14' and 'showed up on the 12th' is circulating, but it should be handled with caution: no sufficiently solid source confirms these two dates as a factual element attributable to Mourinho.
What is established, however, is that Mbappé did indeed resume training on August 10, after three weeks of vacation, before taking part in the match against Schalke.
