The dispute between Pape Thiaw and the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has just reached a new milestone. The former head coach has, through his lawyer Me Guédel Ndiaye, sent a formal notice to the FSF claiming exactly 423,820,300 CFA francs.
The letter, dated 11 August 2026 and whose authenticity Dsports states it has verified, concerns salaries, bonuses, allowances and expenses that Pape Thiaw claims he has not received.
The breakdown of the sums claimed
The claim breaks down as follows:
- 180 million FCFA for six months of salary (March to August 2026), based on a net monthly remuneration of 30 million
- 90 million corresponding to part of the signing bonus
- 30 million in special bonus
- 12 million in housing allowances
- 1.104 million in fuel allowance
- 10.716 million in personally incurred expenses
- 100 million in bonuses linked to the AFCON title and World Cup qualification
A contract at the heart of the dispute
The contractual file is itself particularly sensitive. According to the formal notice, Thiaw had signed a 36-month contract with the FSF, running from 1 March 2026 to 28 February 2029, with a retroactive effect and an obligation to regularise salary arrears. The former head coach nonetheless claims to have received no salary since March.
The FSF now has eight days from receipt of the formal notice to respond and settle the claimed debt. Failing that, Thiaw's counsel announces the possibility of initiating legal proceedings.
A claimed debt, not yet acknowledged
It is however important to be precise about the nature of this sum: the 423.8 million FCFA represents the debt claimed by Pape Thiaw, and not a liability definitively acknowledged by the Federation. Should the matter go to court, the contract, its remuneration clauses, the bonuses and the conditions of termination will be at the heart of the case.
This affair comes a few weeks after the FSF's decision to terminate Pape Thiaw and his staff's duties, following Senegal's elimination at the 2026 World Cup. As the Federation prepares to turn the sporting page with the appointment of a new head coach, the Thiaw case risks continuing to weigh on relations between the former coach and the Senegalese governing body.
