Patrick Vieira has yet to lead his first match with Senegal, and a first disagreement has already emerged around his taking up of the role.
The new head coach reportedly wants to join the Lions' gathering directly in Mozambique, where Senegal are set to face the Mambas on 25 September as part of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. Such an arrangement would allow him to focus immediately on the pitch.
The Senegalese Football Federation, however, wants him to go through Dakar first. The aim is to officially present him, but also to allow him to unveil his first squad list in front of the press and the Senegalese public.
This disagreement comes as Vieira needs to quickly find his footing. After Mozambique, the Lions will travel to Ethiopia on 29 September to continue their qualifying campaign.
Beyond this initial friction, the new head coach will above all have to establish his method within a group accustomed to working with well-established reference points.
His first gathering will therefore already provide valuable insight into his choices, his message, and the direction he wants to give the Lions.
