PSG – Aston Villa: a Super Cup that already feels like a real European test

PSG face Aston Villa this Wednesday August 12 in Salzburg, with the first trophy of the season on the line. The European champions take on the Europa League winners in a fixture that goes well beyond a mere summer warm-up.

That tie had shown the Villans that they could compete with PSG. They now have the opportunity to prove it once more, this time with a trophy at stake.

This Super Cup will also be a duel between two Spanish managers with clear ambitions. Paris will look to impose their possession game and high press, while Villa will need to manage certain spells without the ball by capitalising on the quality of their transitions and exploiting the spaces left behind the Parisian defence.

PSG are the favourites, but Aston Villa have already demonstrated their ability to cause them serious problems. For Paris, this will be the first genuine examination of the new season. For Villa, the chance to confirm that their European title was truly deserved.
