In this reading, leaving the player on the bench on the very evening of his individual crowning would amount to a deliberate message from Luis Enrique, intended to prick his forward's pride rather than punish a specific poor performance.
This hypothesis remains an outside analysis. No statement from the coach or the player supports it at this stage.
