FC San Pedro will now have to seek qualification in Nigeria. The Ivorian club was held to a draw at home by Rivers United (1-1), in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
In front of their home crowd, San Pedro hoped to gain an advantage before the trip to Nigeria, but the two teams ultimately remained neck and neck at the end of the match.
Qualification to be decided in the second leg
This result leaves the tie completely open. The Ivorians will need to deliver a solid performance away from home to secure their qualification to the next round.
Rivers United, for their part, have the psychological advantage of playing the second leg at home, but San Pedro still have every chance in this two-legged tie.
