Teungueth FC now knows its path in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League. Champions of Senegal at the end of the past season, the club from Rufisque will begin its continental campaign against FC Canchungo, representing Guinea-Bissau.
A first fixture that looks manageable on paper, but one that already represents a crucial moment for Senegalese football. For Teungueth FC, the objective will not simply be to clear this first hurdle: above all, it will be about establishing a lasting presence on the African club competition scene.
🗓️ Schedule: kick-off in September
The first preliminary round will take place in September, with the first leg scheduled between 4 and 6 September, followed by the return leg a week later. The Rufisque side will therefore have a few weeks to sharpen their combinations before getting into the thick of things.
Should they qualify, a significantly tougher second appointment awaits Teungueth FC. The men of Malick Daf will then face the winner of the tie between Colombe Sportive du Dja et Lobo (Cameroon) and Stade Malien. The road to the group stage is still a long one.
🏆 A title and new ambitions
June's national title has given the club a new lease of life. Teungueth FC finished the Senegalese Ligue 1 in top spot with 54 points, edging out AJEL de Rufisque thanks in particular to a better record in the head-to-head matches.
In the wake of that success, the club has strengthened its squad to face this African campaign in the best possible conditions. Several new signings have joined the group:
- Albert Boughazelli
- Gorgui Diop
- Seydou Nourou Dione
- Sidy Sow (returning after his experience in Sweden)
This reinforcement reflects the club's determination to step up to a new level on the continental stage.
⚽ A challenge that goes beyond Rufisque
For several seasons now, Senegalese clubs have struggled to progress through the various rounds of African interclub competitions. The last time a Senegalese representative reached the group stage was in the 2020-2021 season, with Teungueth FC in the Champions League and Jaraaf in the Confederation Cup.
The return of the Rufisque club to that level therefore represents a new opportunity to revive Senegalese club football on the continental scene. But before dreaming bigger, they will first need to get past FC Canchungo.
Senegal's champions know their first opponent. It is now up to them to show they have what it takes to go further.
