Tottenham is going through a particularly difficult start to the season. Beaten 2-0 at home by Newcastle, Spurs suffer their second defeat in two matchdays and have still not scored a single goal in the Premier League.
For Roberto De Zerbi, who arrived with the ambition of reviving the club, the situation is understandably worrying. Tottenham did, however, show good intentions for much of the match. But that dominance remained fruitless.
Worrying efficiency
Spurs had the chances to make the difference, particularly in the first half, but lacked precision in the decisive zone. Newcastle, for their part, showed far more clinical finishing.
Anthony Elanga opened the scoring in the second half before Yoane Wissa doubled the lead. Two blows that were enough to tip a match that had until then been balanced.
The De Zerbi project already under scrutiny
It is obviously too early to draw definitive conclusions. But two defeats and no goals after two matchdays already put Tottenham under pressure.
De Zerbi will need to quickly find offensive solutions and, above all, turn control of the game into genuinely dangerous chances. The talent is there, but Spurs must now show more character.
Tottenham needs answers, and quickly.
