Harry Kane chose sobriety when talking about himself. In an interview granted to Spanish newspaper Marca, published on Friday, the Bayern Munich striker summed up his 2025-2026 season in a single sentence.
'I've never liked talking too much about myself. The only thing I'd say is that last season was incredible, both on a personal level and for the team. It was, by far, the best season of my life.'
The numbers, meanwhile, speak louder. Kane scored 73 goals in 65 matches across all competitions for Bayern Munich and England. With the Bavarian club, he scored 61 times:
- 36 goals in the Bundesliga
- 14 goals in the Champions League
- 10 goals in the German Cup
- 1 goal in the German Super Cup
He added 12 more goals with the Three Lions.
The Harry Kane card
This total places the English striker second among the best individual seasons of the 21st century, behind Lionel Messi's 82 goals in 69 matches in 2011-2012.
'Reaching 73 goals, the second-best total in history, speaks for itself. I'm extremely proud of it,' Kane told Marca.
The Englishman also had a remarkable World Cup. He scored six goals with England during the tournament, contributing to the Three Lions' run to third place. Kane notably scored in the 3-2 win over Mexico in the round of 16. He did not, however, take part in the third-place match, which England won 6-4 against France.
With Bayern, Kane won the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the German Super Cup, while finishing as Europe's top scorer with 36 league goals. Bayern also reached the Champions League quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by Real Madrid.
On an individual level, Kane already holds two European Golden Shoes. A third would bring him closer to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, the only two players to have won at least three.
'Every time I win one, I want another, and then another one,' he said.
A wide-open Ballon d'Or race
The race for the Ballon d'Or is shaping up to be particularly close. Kane arrives with 73 goals and three trophies won with Bayern, while Kylian Mbappé finished as the top scorer in both La Liga and the Champions League, without winning a major collective title with Real Madrid or France. Lamine Yamal, for his part, won La Liga with Barcelona and the World Cup with Spain, as well as being named La Liga's best player for the 2025-2026 season.
No English player has won the Ballon d'Or since Michael Owen in 2001. Kane also knows the ceremony will carry a special significance for him: it will be held on October 26 in London, his hometown.
'A lot of people have told me that, and maybe it's a good omen,' he explained to Marca.
For Kane, however, the choice is not up to him.
'The Ballon d'Or doesn't depend on me. It's awarded by the people who vote,' he pointed out.
A way of letting his 73 goals, his titles and his run with England speak for themselves.
