Manchester United let victory slip through their fingers against Everton once again

Chroniqueur & Reporter · 6 septembre 2026

Manchester United thought they had a precious victory against Everton in the bag. The Red Devils were still leading 2-1 in the 95th minute before Ainsley Maitland-Niles snatched an equaliser in the very last moments. Final score: 2-2.

A dramatic turnaround at Goodison Park

After a goalless first half, Manchester United took the lead after the break thanks to Bryan Mbeumo. Everton quickly responded, with Tyrique George levelling the score for both sides shortly after.

The visitors nevertheless regained the lead late in the match. Benjamin Šeško appeared to have handed United all three points by scoring the second goal in the 88th minute.

But Everton refused to admit defeat. In stoppage time, Ainsley Maitland-Niles found the target with a superb strike, allowing the Toffees to snatch a draw after a nail-biting finish.

Regrets for United, satisfaction for Everton

This late equaliser leaves Manchester United with plenty of regrets. Ruben Amorim's side had victory in their hands and seemed to be heading towards an important away win.

For Everton, on the other hand, this point will taste particularly sweet. Despite the difficulties encountered during the off-season, the Toffees remain unbeaten and have once again shown their ability to come back in a match that had slipped away from them.

Manchester United will therefore have to wait a little longer to prove they can manage the closing stages of matches. Against Everton, three points seemed within reach. In the end, they were reduced to just one.
