The Bradley Barcola file is clearly open at Paris Saint-Germain. Questioned after the Parisian victory in the UEFA Super Cup against Aston Villa, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi did not guarantee that the French winger would stay.
'We are working calmly, we do not talk much, we act. I cannot say whether he will leave or not. Today, he is a PSG player. We will see.'
A considerable financial gap between the two clubs
Behind this caution, the main obstacle remains financial. Liverpool are pushing to sign Barcola and would reportedly be willing to go up to around 120 million euros. Paris, for their part, are said to have set their demands at more than 150 million euros, excluding bonuses.
An offer of 115 million euros is said to have already been submitted by the Reds and is expected to be rejected by PSG. The gap between the two parties therefore remains substantial, and no agreement exists at this stage on the transfer fee.
Barcola, no longer untransferable, is said to have refused to extend his contract
The situation has nonetheless evolved: Barcola is no longer considered entirely untransferable. Under contract until 2028, the French international is said to have decided not to extend his commitment with Paris, which would have led the club to reconsider its position.
Liverpool are said to have already reached a contractual agreement with the player on their side. But without an agreement between the two clubs on the transfer fee, the matter remains unresolved.
His absence in the Super Cup, a signal to be put into perspective
The fact that Barcola remained on the bench for the entirety of the UEFA Super Cup inevitably fuels speculation. It would, however, be premature to see it as confirmation of his imminent departure.
PSG still have room to negotiate, and Liverpool must now decide how far they are willing to go to convince Paris to sell one of their most valuable attacking assets. A file to follow closely until the transfer window closes.
