Enzo Fernández: Chelsea sets an ultimatum for Manchester City

FootReporter · 13 août 2026

Chelsea has set out its conditions without ambiguity. Manchester City have until Friday, August 14 at 5 p.m. (British time) to submit an offer of £120 million for Enzo Fernández. After that deadline, the London club intends to keep their Argentine midfielder.

A deal linked to Rodri's future

The Fernández trail fits into a specific context on Manchester's side. City are considering the Argentine as one of the solutions to compensate for a potential departure of Rodri to FC Barcelona. Chelsea, aware of this interest, has chosen not to let discussions drag on: the club has communicated its conditions directly to the Manchester club as well as to the player's entourage.

The issue for Chelsea is above all a matter of timing. By setting a precise deadline, the Blues wish to have a swift answer in order, if necessary, to turn to the transfer market before it closes.

A player under contract and valued at a high price

Aged 25, Fernández remains a central figure in the London side's setup. Having arrived from Benfica in 2023 for a record fee of £106.8 million, the 2022 World Cup winner is still tied to Chelsea for several years. The club is therefore only willing to consider his departure at a valuation deemed sufficiently high.

The countdown has begun

Manchester City must now make a decision: meet the £120M demand or definitively drop their pursuit. For Chelsea, the message is unequivocal — by Friday, the matter will have to be settled.
