Christopher Nkunku could well be reunited with RB Leipzig. Sidelined from the AC Milan squad and out of Ruben Amorim's plans, the French forward is at the heart of advanced discussions between the two clubs over a paid loan with an option to buy. Leipzig has stepped up its efforts in recent hours and now appears to be the player's preferred destination, ahead of Newcastle in this matter.
Nkunku is said to have made it clear that he wants to return to the German club where he established himself as one of the best attacking players in the Bundesliga. The latest reports even indicate that he has given his agreement in principle to the project, although certain contractual details still need to be settled between the clubs and the player.
🔴⚪ A return to his roots
Between 2019 and 2023, Nkunku played 172 matches for Leipzig, scoring 70 goals and providing 56 assists in all competitions. Statistically, this remains the peak of his career.
His last season in Germany remains particularly memorable. In 2022-2023, he scored 16 goals in the Bundesliga, finishing as joint top scorer of the league alongside Niclas Füllkrug.
After his transfer to Chelsea in 2023 (around €60m), then his move to Milan in the summer of 2025 for €37m (potentially rising to around €42m with bonuses), Nkunku has not regained the consistency of his German years. He still finished his first season at Milan with 8 goals and 3 assists in 35 matches.
A return to Leipzig is therefore no longer just a rumour: the move is now very concrete, with negotiations intensifying between the two clubs.
