Jack Grealish to Atlético Madrid: Manchester City ready to negotiate

FootReporter · 3 août 2026

Jack Grealish could be facing a new turning point in his career. After a season spent on loan at Everton, the English international returned to Manchester City, but his future with the Citizens looks more uncertain than ever. The Manchester club is now said to be willing to listen to offers for their attacking midfielder.

According to several British and Spanish media outlets, Atlético Madrid is currently the club furthest along in this pursuit. Diego Simeone is said to appreciate Grealish's profile — a player capable of operating across the entire attacking front, retaining the ball under pressure and bringing genuine creativity in the final thirty metres.

A return to City with no guarantees

Despite an encouraging season in Everton colours, Grealish no longer appears to feature among Pep Guardiola's priorities. Fierce competition within the squad, combined with the emergence of new attacking profiles, is pushing Manchester City to consider a departure should a satisfactory offer arise.

The Citizens are therefore no longer closing the door on a transfer. The club is looking to use this transfer window to reduce their wage bill while reinvesting in other positions.

Atlético in pole position, but competition exists

Los Colchoneros see in Grealish a player capable of bringing his experience of major European occasions and of strengthening an attacking unit that sometimes lacks creativity. La Liga would also represent a new challenge for the former Aston Villa captain.

The situation remains open, however. Everton, satisfied with his contribution during the loan spell, continues to monitor his situation, while Aston Villa are keeping a close eye on how the market develops. But at this stage, it is Atlético Madrid who appear to be the most credible candidate.

A financial hurdle to clear

The main obstacle remains financial. Grealish's salary and the fee demanded by Manchester City are forcing interested clubs to explore different arrangements, whether a permanent transfer or a loan with an option to buy.

No official offer has yet been submitted, but talks are ongoing behind the scenes. If negotiations accelerate over the coming days, the English international could become one of the last major sagas of this summer transfer window.

At 30 years old, Grealish seems ready to turn the page and open a new chapter in his career. A move to Spain has never looked so credible — Atlético Madrid hold the advantage, but the final verdict is yet to come.
