The African football confederation receives the AES bid for the 2032 AFCON

FootReporter · 25 juillet 2026

The African football confederation has received the official bid from the Alliance of Sahel States to host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations. Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger wish to carry this project together, a first for a coalition of states in the context of a joint AFCON bid.

The move comes against a difficult security backdrop in the three countries. Armed groups remain active across significant portions of their territories. Sports, hotel and logistics infrastructure will need to be carefully assessed by continental authorities before any decision is made.

The CAF has also launched a tender for the global commercial rights to the competition covering the 2028, 2032 and 2036 editions. This timeline indicates that the awarding of the 2032 AFCON is not imminent, which gives the AES time to strengthen its bid. The question remains whether the regional security situation will improve sufficiently to convince African football's decision-makers.
