Leeds United are very close to completing one of the biggest signings of their summer transfer window. The freshly promoted Premier League club has reached an agreement with Manchester City for the signing of goalkeeper James Trafford, in a deal estimated at 47 million euros, bonuses included.
A bold choice despite competition
Aged 23, the English international is said to have made Leeds his priority despite interest from other English clubs. He is expected to become the club's third summer signing, following Tarik Muharemovic and Harry Wilson.
Leeds were looking to strengthen their goalkeeping position following the departure of Karl Darlow. Long linked with Newcastle, Trafford is now set to settle at Elland Road and take on a new challenge as first-choice goalkeeper.
A mixed season at City
Having returned to Manchester City last summer with the ambition of establishing himself there long-term, the goalkeeper saw his prospects diminish following the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma. Over the 2025-2026 season, he nonetheless featured in 17 matches across all competitions and contributed to the Citizens' successes in the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.
A strong statement ahead of their return to the top flight
By betting on one of the most promising goalkeepers in English football, Leeds are sending a clear message: the club intends to make its mark in the upcoming Premier League season and has no plans to simply make up the numbers.
