Olympique Lyonnais secured their ticket to the Champions League play-offs by turning things around against Sparta Prague (3-0), after a 2-1 defeat in the first leg. Lyon will now face Fenerbahçe, with a spot in the league phase at stake.
Niakhaté is not afraid of Fenerbahçe
Lyon defender Moussa Niakhaté, however, refuses to portray the Turkish club as an insurmountable obstacle. While Paulo Fonseca considers Fenerbahçe the favourite, the Senegalese international believes OL has nothing to envy them, provided they reproduce the ingredients shown against Sparta.
'We have nothing to envy them'
The challenge will nonetheless be serious. Fenerbahçe boasts an experienced squad and will host Lyon on Tuesday, 18 August, in Istanbul for the first leg. The return match is scheduled for 26 August at the Groupama Stadium.
One last hurdle before the league phase
Having come back from two goals down against Sparta, Lyon will therefore still have to clear one final hurdle to reach the Champions League league phase. This time, any mistake will come at a much higher cost.
