The closure of the transfer window in the five major European leagues has not put an end to player movements. Several markets remain open and could allow some African players to find a new destination in the coming days.
Windows still active
Turkey is one of the last major possibilities. Turkish clubs still have a few days left to finalise their deals.
Portugal also keeps its window open until mid-September. Several Portuguese clubs could therefore still take advantage of this period to complete their squads.
Saudi Arabia, for its part, has an even bigger margin. Its transfer window continues well after the closure of the main European markets, which leaves the door open for new deals.
This situation particularly concerns players who failed to find a solution before September 1.
An opportunity for young Africans
For young Africans playing in Europe, these final windows can also represent an opportunity to gain playing time. A loan to a league still open can sometimes help avoid spending the first part of the season on the bench.
The case of Simon Adingra perfectly illustrates this dynamic. The Ivorian left Sunderland after the closure of the English market to join Ajax on loan, with the Dutch transfer window still open.
Other moves could therefore still take place.
The major period of European transfers is over, but the African market is not completely frozen. The coming weeks could still hold a few surprises, particularly in Turkey, Portugal and the Gulf.
