The final day of the European transfer window was also marked by several moves involving African players. Some took a new step in their careers, while others opted for a loan move to find playing time.
Senegal in the spotlight
Iliman Ndiaye is leaving Everton to join Manchester City in a deal estimated at around 76 million euros with bonuses included. At 26, the forward is joining one of the most powerful clubs in Europe.
Pape Matar Sarr is also stepping up a level. The Senegalese midfielder is leaving Tottenham for Juventus on loan, with an obligation to buy that could take the deal to around 30 million euros depending on the conditions set out.
The evening could also have crowned Lamine Camara. The AS Monaco midfielder was very close to joining Chelsea for around 55 million euros, but the transfer was ultimately called off in the final hours. The Senegalese international therefore stays at Monaco, despite very strong interest from the London club.
Other notable moves
In Belgium... sorry, on the Lyon side, Malick Fofana has chosen Sunderland. The 21-year-old winger is leaving Olympique Lyonnais to discover the Premier League in a deal that could reach 35 million euros with bonuses.
Another case to follow: Youssouf Fofana is leaving AC Milan to join Sevilla FC, on loan. The French midfielder of Ivorian descent will try to relaunch his career and regain playing time in Spain.
The transfer window is not fully closed yet
For African players, the transfer window is not entirely over. Some markets remain open after the closing of the five major European leagues, notably in Turkey, Portugal and Saudi Arabia. Last-minute moves could therefore still happen in the coming days.
This closing of the transfer window has in any case confirmed an underlying trend: European clubs continue to invest heavily in young, explosive African talents capable of quickly making their mark at the highest level.
