Coming on at halftime against Rennes during the first matchday of Ligue 1, Ferran Torres immediately made an impact. With PSG trailing 2-0, the Spanish forward replaced Ousmane Dembélé and scored twice to allow the Parisians to snatch a draw (2-2).
After the match, Torres paid tribute to Luis Enrique, with whom he shares a special relationship dating back to their time together with the Spanish national team. 'Luis Enrique has always given me a lot of confidence', explained the Parisian forward. A relationship described as that of a 'footballing father', given how much the coach has meant in his career.
The Ferran Torres card
Having arrived this summer from FC Barcelona, Ferran Torres is part of a particularly eventful Parisian transfer window. He joined the capital alongside:

At the same time, Bradley Barcola, Gonçalo Ramos, Kang-in Lee and Ibrahim Mbaye left the club.
His introduction against Rennes was therefore no small matter. Trailing by two goals at halftime, Luis Enrique decided to take off Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to bring on Torres and Godts. A bold choice that paid off immediately with the Spaniard's double.
The Spanish coach thus reminded everyone that a player's status guarantees no place in the team.

A 'footballing father' who knows his player perfectly
The relationship between the two men does not date back to Torres' arrival in Paris. Luis Enrique managed him with the Spanish national team and therefore knows perfectly well his qualities, as well as what he can still bring.
Even before his debut with PSG, the coach had shown his confidence in his compatriot. On the eve of the Trophée des Champions against Lens, he explained that Torres was a player he knew well and who 'can play anywhere in attack'.
This versatility is an important asset for Luis Enrique. Torres can play through the middle as well as on the wings, offering an additional option in an attacking department that is now highly competitive.
A transfer window meant to create new momentum
The choice of Torres fits within a deeply reshaped Parisian transfer window. After the departure of several attacking players, Luis Enrique felt that PSG had put together an 'exceptional' transfer window, explaining that the team needed to be regenerated and to regain more energy, mentality and ambition.
In this new PSG, Ferran Torres could therefore occupy a special place: that of a player Luis Enrique already knows, appreciates, and trusts.
And his introduction against Rennes immediately gave weight to this relationship. For his first big Ligue 1 test, the protégé of the 'footballing father' Luis Enrique rose to the occasion with a brace.
