Real Madrid has revealed its squad for its final pre-season match, scheduled Sunday in Gelsenkirchen against Schalke 04. Two names are commanding all the attention: the return of Kylian Mbappé and the first call-up of Yan Diomandé in Madrid colours.
Mbappé back in the squad
Absent for the previous friendly, the French forward rejoins José Mourinho and his teammates just days before the official start of the season. Mbappé is coming off an exceptional first season at Real Madrid, marked by 42 goals across all competitions in 2025-2026. He is once again set to be one of the club's main attacking weapons.
Diomandé, the headline of this call-up
The other standout development is the inclusion of Yan Diomandé in the Madrid squad. The young Ivorian, who arrived from RB Leipzig for a record fee, could therefore wear the white shirt for the first time, just a few weeks after his transfer. His first appearance is undoubtedly the most eagerly awaited moment of this pre-season fixture.
A near fully-fit squad for Mourinho
The Portuguese manager finally benefits from the return of the majority of his international players. Bellingham, Courtois, Cucurella and Konaté are also included in the list. Mourinho thus has a sufficiently large squad to fine-tune his tactical choices ahead of the first official fixtures.
Real Madrid will begin their Liga season on 22 August against Espanyol. The trip to Gelsenkirchen therefore represents the coach's final testing ground before the serious business begins.
