Paris Saint-Germain has finally secured its first Ligue 1 win. But the victory achieved on Sunday evening in Brest (0-1) did not convince Luis Enrique. The Parisian coach delivered a particularly harsh assessment after the match.
After three consecutive draws in the league, Paris quickly made the difference thanks to Ferran Torres, who scored in the 5th minute. But despite several opportunities to extend the lead, PSG never fully controlled the match.
Brest notably pushed forward in the second half, and Paris had to rely on several interventions from Matvey Safonov and on its goalpost to preserve its advantage.
Luis Enrique: 'Nothing'
Asked what he had liked about his team's performance, Luis Enrique did not hesitate:
What did I like about the match? Nothing.
The Spaniard then explained his dissatisfaction:
We did much better in the three matches we didn't win compared to today. We put a lot of rhythm into it from the start, but we missed chances we shouldn't miss. Today, we took the three points but we need to do better.
A particularly clear message, even though PSG has just secured its first win of the season in the league.
Luis Enrique above all wants more control:
If you want to win the way we want to win, you can't be satisfied with that, I expect more from my players. We need to control more, there were moments where we didn't have the ball. We need to improve that, for all the players and for the coach too.
The forwards also put on notice
The Parisian coach also discussed the management of his offensive line, which has been in heavy demand due to the string of matches.
I think the match was difficult for our forwards. I don't want to talk about the players individually, but about the three of them. I'm happy with the quality of my forwards. It will be difficult for them to play all the time, even impossible.
Luis Enrique therefore fully embraces the principle of rotation:
There will be many matches, for a team like ours, a lot of quality is needed, so I'm happy.
PSG leaves Brest with three precious points and finally gets its Ligue 1 season underway. But a week before the trip to Marseille for the Classique, Luis Enrique's message has already been delivered: winning is not enough, the level of performance must quickly step up.
